MAYOR’S MESSAGE FOR April 2012

Spring has sprung! The daffodils and crocuses are springing up.  It is now the time to take a look around and see all the trash along side the reads and properties.  We have selected a clean-up day for the Village.  Saturday April 21st is the day.  We will all meet at the Solvay Highway Department on Milton Ave at 9am to collect our bags and gloves.  We invite the community to help us clean up this day.  If you cannot join us on clean-up day, take a look at your property and help the village look better by cleaning up.  Every little bit of help will make the village look better.  You can call the Highway Department for your Friday pick-ups.  We are back to our Friday pick-up schedule.  Please make sure you call and schedule a pick-up don’t just put the trash out because it will not be picked up and you might get cited by Codes Department if it sites for another week.  It really makes the village look messy.

I have had several inquires on the pile of covered dirt in back of Ben Weitzman’s.  It is clean dirt being used as filler and to act as a digester.  Honeywell is going forward with this procedure.  They are cleaning up this area as part of their Onondaga lake project.  A digester is a vessel in which substances are softened or decomposed.  It is a natural way of cleaning up that area.  The DEC has been monitoring that area for years and now this should clean up anything that was on that site.  When it is finished decomposing it will be leveled out.

We will be moving our monthly Village Board Meeting back to the Geddes Town Hall starting April 10th at 6pm; we have scheduled a public hearing on the 2013 budget.  It will be held in the downstairs meeting room.  With the cooperation of the Town and Village we are now moving back with no monies paid to the Town.  i thank every member of the Town Board for voting unanimously to allow us to move back.  We would also like to thank the Solvay Public Library staff for helping set-up and take down for our monthly board meetings and all the organizations we displaced.

we are looking forward to a safe and healthy Summer.

Sincerely
Mayor Kathy Marinelli
