This is a sad month. September 11, 2001 was a series of four coordinated suicide attacks against the USA. September 11, 2011 marks the 10th anniversary of those attacks. On that morning 19 al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four passenger jets. They intentionally crashed two planes into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in NYC, and both towers collapsed within two hours. Hijackers crashed a third plane into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. When passengers attempted to take control of the fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, it crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania preventing it from reaching its intended target in Washington, D.C. Nearly 3,000 died in the attacks. Let us not forget this day. Let us take a moment of silence on Sunday, 09-11-01 for all who lost their lives on this fateful day. GOD BLESSES THEM!
We are creeping into fall. It doesn’t seem possible that our summer is almost over. A thank-you from me and the Village Board goes to Mike Tanzella and Mike Sladick for sponsoring the “Horn Dogs” on August 5th. It was a great evening and everyone enjoyed the music. Thank-you to all that participated in our Summer Festival. Once again the fireworks display was the best. The Kiddie Parade was very well attended this year with over 50 children participating. Thanks to Gail Tarolli, Sheryl Mazzochi and Linda Feneck our organizers. A big thank-you to Anthony Alberti for all his hard work on the festival, all our sponsors and vendors. We will be working on our annual Halloween Hayride which will be held on Saturday, October 29th. Hope you all can make it!
We have paved some roads, repaired some sidewalks, filled some potholes, and picked up a lot of trash this summer. We are putting our heads together and some more monies into the budget for sidewalk repair next year. We know there are many sidewalks that need repairing. We are still waiting to hear from FEMA on the damage from the rain storm. The homeowners on Montrose Ave were hit hard and they have been very patient. We have sent out letters to our Assemblyman Magnarelli and Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Minor and the Town of Geddes for some help for these homeowners and we are awaiting their responses.
We have issued a freeze on unnecessary spending, hiring, overtime and any projects that we have not yet begun. This is an effort to keep within our spending.
