Solvay (WSYR-TV) – The Solvay Police Department is already using plate-reading cameras mounted on their patrol cars and have surveillance cameras they can set up anywhere around the village. They’ve now just added another new tool.
Solvay police are teaming up with neighbors online, to keep the village safe.
For a police department that’s been around for 106 years, there’s nothing old fashioned about the way it is connecting with neighbors.
The department’s new interactive website just went live. You can submit a tip, on line, and cops can blog about a just-solved crime.
“The whole idea is to get more information flowing between the police departments and the neighborhoods they patrol,” says Lt. Daryl Perrigo. “They really want to reach out to neighbors who may have a tip about a crime, or a concern and are reluctant to pick up the phone and call them.”

The Solvay Police Department is proud to launch a new interactive website in their continuing effort to utilize current technology tools to fight crime and improve community policing in the Village of Solvay.
This new website is a community portal for information gathered from anonymous crime tip forms on the website to a real-time Crime Blog. Officers will now be able to manage their own website pages and update information as it becomes available to the public.
The website has been developed as a content management system allowing police officers to post information to the site immediately. Criminal activity is the focus for the new website and posts will be found in the Crime Blog. Each post will include an anonymous submission form from which the public can send crime tips to the Criminal Investigation Unit.
The Solvay Police Department is being highly proactive in utilizing new technologies ranging from streaming surveillance cameras to the recent purchase of another plate reader vehicle. This web site is the next step in the agressive process of upgrading the service provided to the community by its police force.
Please visit their new website found at http://solvaypd.com.
The web site is locally developed and maintained by iSafe Technologies, Inc.
